Sodium hyaluronate is the sodium salt form of hyaluronic acid, composed of repeating disaccharide units of N-acetylglucosamine and D-glucuronic acid, forming a high-molecular-weight linear mucopolysaccharide. It is widely present in the extracellular matrix of connective tissues in animals and humans. In aqueous solutions, its highly extended and randomly coiled configuration allows it to occupy a large volume, while its molecular chains intertwine to form a continuous network structure. This enables sodium hyaluronate to function like a "molecular sponge," capable of absorbing and retaining up to a thousand times its own weight in water. Sodium hyaluronate is now widely used in various fields such as medicine, cosmetics, food, and textiles.
